Hey Meteor.js Developers,

We are excited to announce that Meteor Software will be providing Extended Support Maintenance (ESM) for Node.js 14. We understand the importance of stability and long-term compatibility for your applications and are committed to ensuring a seamless experience for our developer community.

As you may be aware, the official sunset of Node.js 14 LTS is scheduled for April 2023. To help ease the transition of your applications to Meteor 3.0 and provide additional support, Meteor Software will offer Meteor.js Node.js 14 ESM for 12 months beyond the official end-of-life date.

Our Extended Support Maintenance will focus on the following:

  1. Security updates: We will actively monitor and backport security fixes from newer versions of Node.js (such as Node.js 16 and 18) to ensure the ongoing safety and stability of your Meteor.js applications running on Node.js 14.
  2. Critical bug fixes: We will address any critical issues that might arise, prioritizing stability and compatibility for your projects.

Please note that this Extended Support Maintenance is specific to Node.js 14 within the Meteor.js framework and is separate from the official Node.js LTS releases.

To start using our forked version of Node.js 14 with Extended Support Maintenance, you will need to update your Meteor.js application to version 2.12. As of now, version 2.12 is in beta. Our team is hard at work finalizing the release, and we plan to make an official release in the next few days. We encourage all Meteor.js developers to plan accordingly and take advantage of our ESM for Node.js 14.

If you need assistance or have any questions about using our Node.js 14 ESM build, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.

After the 12-month ESM period, we plan to hand over the maintenance of our forked Node.js 14 to the community and/or companies interested in keeping it. This will provide an opportunity for continued support and collaboration on the forked version of Node.js 14 beyond our official maintenance period.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for Meteor.js. We hope everyone will soon be able to migrate to Meteor 3.0 to get all the benefits of our new async API and Node.js 20.

We recommend following our public board and the forum topic to stay up-to-date with the latest developments on Meteor 3.0. Doing so gives you access to all the updates as they’re released. Don’t miss the exciting new features and improvements!

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us! Until next time! 👋
